BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) — China's average life expectancy has reached 79 years by the end of 2024, Lei Haichao, head of the National Health Commission, said Thursday at a press conference to highlight China's progress in healthcare during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).
The figure is an increase of 1.1 years from 2020, Lei Haichao added, noting that it is a “notable favorable improvement” for the developing country.
According to him, the average life expectancy in the country's eight provincial-level administrative units has exceeded 80 years.
Lei Haichao said the country's infant and maternal mortality rates have continued to decline over the past five years, and the overall health of the population has steadily improved. -0-
