UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — The United Nations welcomes the agreement reached between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on "practical modalities for resuming inspections in Iran," Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the head of the world body, said on Wednesday.
“We welcome the agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the IAEA on ‘practical modalities for the resumption of inspections in Iran’ as a positive step towards resuming full cooperation as required by Iran’s comprehensive safeguards agreement,” Dujarric said at a daily briefing. “And we look forward to the agreement’s speedy implementation.”
He added that Iran's full cooperation with the IAEA is essential to achieving a long-term framework that ensures the preservation of the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program.
Iran and the IAEA signed an agreement on Tuesday to resume cooperation, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said at a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty and the agency's director general Rafael Grossi. –0–
