BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) — China hopes Mexico will exercise caution and carefully consider its actions before making any adjustments to customs duties, the Ministry of Commerce said Thursday.

A ministry spokesman made the statement in response to media reports that Mexico plans to raise import duties on about 1,400 items from countries, including China, that have not signed free trade agreements with it.

China will closely monitor Mexico's tariff initiatives and carefully evaluate any final measures, the official promised, stressing that China and Mexico are important trade and economic partners for each other and China would not like to see bilateral cooperation suffer. -0-
