WASHINGTON, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — The decision to attack Hamas in the Qatari capital was made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, not the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday.
“This decision was made by [Israeli] Prime Minister Netanyahu, not me,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social page.
The US president said he immediately instructed special envoy Steven Witkoff to inform the Qataris of the impending Israeli attack, but “unfortunately, it was too late to prevent the attack.”
“Unilateral bombing of Qatar, a sovereign state and close ally of the United States that has made enormous efforts and bravely taken risks to help us achieve peace, does not advance Israel’s or America’s goals,” he said.
D. Trump noted that he considers Qatar a strong ally and friend of the United States and “greatly regrets the location of the attack,” but the destruction of Hamas is “a worthy goal,” he added.
The US President confirmed that he had a telephone conversation with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and assured him that “something like this will never happen again on their soil.
