BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — China is firmly adhering to the "red line" of preserving arable land, gradually establishing a comprehensive protection system covering its quantity, quality and ecology, Natural Resources Minister Guan Zhiou said Wednesday.

As of the end of 2024, China's total arable land area stood at 1.94 billion mu (1 hectare = 15 mu), Guan Zhiou said at a press conference in Beijing.

China is stepping up efforts to ensure that total arable land does not fall below a “red line” of 1.8 billion mu.
