BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping called on BRICS countries to jointly safeguard multilateralism and the multilateral trading system in a speech at the online BRICS summit in Beijing on Monday.
"At this critical juncture, BRICS countries, as the frontline of the Global South, should adhere to the spirit of openness, inclusiveness and cooperation for BRICS' common benefit, jointly safeguard multilateralism and the multilateral trading system, advance 'Greater BRICS' cooperation, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind," Xi said.
The Chinese President called on BRICS countries to adhere to multilateralism and uphold international fairness and justice.
In addition, he noted, BRICS countries must adhere to openness and common gains, defending the international trade and economic order.
