CARACAS, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) — Guyana's President Irfaan Ali was sworn in for a second term at the presidential residence in the capital Georgetown on Sunday, local authorities said.

According to the Electoral Commission, I. Ali, as the candidate of the People's Progressive Party/Civic Party, won the general elections held on September 1 and was successfully re-elected as President.

The results of the elections showed that the People's Progressive Party/Civic Party won 36 seats, We Invest in Nationhood won 16 seats, the Partnership for National Unity won 12 seats, and Forward Guyana won one seat. –0–
