KABUL, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) — A total of 107,037 Afghan refugees returned home from neighboring Iran and Pakistan over the past week, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said in a report on Sunday.
The ministry said all returnees received necessary assistance, including food, drinking water, medical services and free transportation to their hometowns.
In addition, more than US$2.3 million in cash assistance was provided to support their reintegration.
More than 2.3 million Afghan refugees have returned from Pakistan and Iran this year, according to a report by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees released in early August.
In late July, the ministry said about 6 million Afghan refugees, most of them undocumented, were currently living abroad, with the majority of them hosted in Iran and Pakistan. –0–
