KUNMING, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) — Participants in the Global South High-Level Media and Think Tank Forum, which is being held in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, from Sept. 5 to 9, have called for enhanced cooperation and exchange of experiences to build a more equitable and inclusive information space.
Deputy Director General of TASS Marat Abulkhatin emphasized that the media of the Global South are becoming the true voice of billions of people, and “the voice of the Global South is the voice of truth and openness.”
“WE urge our colleagues from the media in the Global South to more actively exchange experiences and organize training seminars for journalists,” added M. Abulkhatin. According to him, such a practice allows not only to exchange the best editorial methods, but also to understand each other’s cultures more deeply.
Editor-in-chief of the International Information Center of Turkmenistan Maksat Kurbangeldyev noted that in the context of the transformation of the world system, the countries of the Global South demonstrate that consensus and solidarity can become a solid foundation for promoting peace, justice and sustainable development.
“It is important that information flows reflect the real diversity of world cultures and positions, and are not limited by the dominance of individual centers of influence,” said M. Kurbangeldyev.
Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Director of the Parliamentary Newspaper of Russia Pavel Mkheidze noted that thanks to modern technologies, information is distributed at an incredible speed, and therefore the key task of the media and analytical centers is to ensure its accuracy, verification and reliability.
According to him, the global community of all informed residents of the Global South represents a community of people who are most interested in a fair and inclusive international order.
“For the reader, the fact that content is provided by media and think tanks from the Global South should serve as a guarantee of the accuracy and veracity of the information provided,” he added.
The Head of the Department for Relations with Foreign Media of the Press Service of the Tashkent Region Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Askarzhon Ismailov, emphasized that it is extremely important for the countries of the Global South to ensure an objective and accurate information flow based on prompt and reliable analytical data.
“After all, distorted or one-sided information can affect not only the international image, but also national security,” added A. Ismailov. He also called for the formation of our own, independent, objective and prompt information field.
“The more accessible different information is, the more important its verification and the reliability of the source are, therefore now, more than ever, the role of authoritative and reliable media is important,” noted the editor-in-chief of special projects of the KP.RU website of the Komsomolskaya Pravda media group, Daria Pankina.
“It is the media and analytical centers that very often act as platforms for dialogue between the authorities and society, where government agencies, public organizations and businesses can speak out and be heard,” she said.
According to D. Pankina, in order to strengthen the “voice of the Global South” and avoid the dominance of a single narrative in global coverage of events, joint projects in different areas are important, as well as in terms of covering the socio-political, cultural and scientific agenda.
The 2025 Global South Media and Think Tank High-Level Forum, jointly hosted by Xinhua News Agency, the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and the People's Government of Yunnan, brought together nearly 500 representatives from over 260 media outlets, think tanks, government agencies, international and regional organizations from 110 countries and regions. -0-
