BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) — A report released Friday by the Xinhua Institute, a think tank under the Xinhua News Agency, proposed four major directions to help the world stay on the path of peaceful development and common prosperity by learning from history.
The report, titled “Historical Retrospect, Upholding Justice – The Great Contribution of the Main Theater of War in the East to the World Anti-Fascist War,” was published in Chinese and English by the aforementioned think tank.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The report proposed four key directions: maintaining and developing a correct historical view of World War II, preserving the post-war international order, defending international impartiality and justice, and promoting the creation of a community of shared destiny for mankind.
In particular, the report called for efforts to counter attempts to gloss over aggression and distort history, to present a full picture of the World Anti-Fascist War, and to understand the historical contributions of the Chinese people and peoples around the world so as to uphold and promote a correct historical view of World War II.
“For decades, the Eastern theatre has been marginalized in Western academic narratives of World War II,” the report says. “China served as a pillar of resistance to Japanese militarism, and the significant contributions, pivotal role, and enormous sacrifices of the Chinese people cannot be denied, ignored, or distorted,” the report says.
According to the report, to preserve the post-war international order, countries are called upon to defend the UN-centric international system, promote an equitable and orderly multipolar world, and advance accessible and inclusive economic globalization.
The report emphasizes the importance of promoting the building of a community of shared destiny for humanity. This requires strategic leadership from the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative.
“Reflecting on history since the World Anti-Fascist War, we have come to a profound understanding: humanity must unite for a common goal and move towards collective action to implement these global initiatives,” the report says.
