On September 4, SPbPU was visited by the outstanding Russian mathematician and mechanic, world-famous specialist in the field of classical mechanics, the theory of dynamic systems and deterministic chaos, stability theory and statistical mechanics, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences Valery Kozlov.
Valery Vasilyevich was met by the rector of SPbPU Andrey Rudskoy and the scientific secretary Dmitry Karpov. The guest was shown the Main Building, the gallery of outstanding scientists, the meeting room of the Academic Council. He also visited the Museum of the History of SPbPU, where he saw unique exhibits that tell about the great mathematical heritage of the Polytechnic University. The director of the museum Valery Klimov showed the scientist lectures and textbooks of the legendary mathematician, the founder of the mechanics of variable composition systems Ivan Meshchersky.
After that, the famous scientist went to the Technopolis Polytech Research Building. He got acquainted with the activities of the international scientific and educational center Additive Technologies. He also assessed the work of the Laboratory of Light Materials and Structures (additive arc technologies and friction stir welding).
"Today Andrey Ivanovich Rudskoy introduced me in detail to the history of your great university. I visited the museum, the historical meeting hall of the Academic Council, the research building, and also saw unique developments created using the latest technologies. All this made a very strong impression. It was especially pleasant to see that young people are participating in these projects – this is our present and our future, – Valery Vasilyevich shared his impressions. – I was deeply touched by my acquaintance with the gallery of outstanding scientists in the Main Building: Corresponding Member, mathematician Ivan Ivanovich Ivanov; the legendary scientist Ivan Matveevich Vinogradov, the famous mathematician Alexey Nikolaevich Krylov. I was shown the lectures of Professor Ivan Vsevolodovich Meshchersky and his collection of problems, which I myself studied from as a student. Holding them in my hands is a fantastic feeling. And I want to wish that such a wonderful university with such wonderful traditions would be replenished every year with talented students, postgraduates, young teachers who are born not only in St. Petersburg, not only in Moscow, but throughout our country. So that they could study here, work and bring benefit to our great Fatherland."
Valery Vasilyevich Kozlov was born in the village of Kostyli in the Ryazan region. His path to science began with a gold medal in a Moscow secondary school, after which he continued his education at the evening physics and mathematics school at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University. In 1972, V. V. Kozlov graduated from the mechanics and mathematics department of Moscow State University, proving himself to be a brilliant student. At the age of 24, he defended his candidate's dissertation, and at 28, he became a doctor of physical and mathematical sciences. Since 1983 – professor.
A specialist in theoretical mechanics and its applications. He obtained a number of fundamental results on the problems of exact integration of equations of dynamics, stability of motion, rigid body dynamics, nonholonomic mechanics, integral invariants, variational problems of dynamics and impact theory.
In particular, they solved:
Poincaré's problem on the absence of new analytical integrals in the problem of the rotation of a heavy asymmetric rigid body with a fixed point; Chaplygin's problem on the fall of a rigid body in an infinite volume of ideal fluid; Painlevé-Golubev's problem on the branching of solutions in the plane of complex time and the presence of a complete set of holomorphic first integrals of Hamilton's equations, as well as other problems in mathematics and mechanics.
Valery Kozlov made a significant contribution to the development of Russian science in the administrative field: Vice-Rector of Moscow State University for Schools for Gifted Children, Chief Scientific Secretary of the Academic Council of Moscow State University, Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation, Director of the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vice-President and Acting President of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
For outstanding services to Russian science, Valery Vasilyevich was awarded orders and medals. He is a full Cavalier of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland". He was also awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky, the Order of Honor, and was awarded the State Prize of Russia.
Under the supervision of Valery Vasilyevich, 30 candidates of sciences were prepared, seven of whom became doctors of sciences. Among his students are academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The author of more than 350 scientific works, including monographs and textbooks, he is an honored professor of Moscow State University and a member of a number of foreign academies and scientific societies.
