The international student construction team of RUDN "Meridian of Friendship" completed its work with a ceremonial closing ceremony. Almost 200 fighters from 47 countries of the world summed up the results of a productive work semester.

Each of them received well-deserved gratitude and memorable gifts from the hands of the university administration. The culmination of the ceremony was the festive concert "Construction team, we are not saying goodbye to you", which was prepared by the students themselves.

“Invaluable work experience, reliable and loyal comrades, a great time, all of this is the Meridian of Friendship,” says Ramil Aznabaev (Russia), Bachelor of Science, Institute of World Economy and Business, RUDN University (Management major, 2nd year).

“Working in a construction team is a real school of life, where every brush becomes a symbol of unity and a source of pride for a common cause,” says Estefania Vargas Nivicela Michel (Ecuador), a student at the RUDN University Medical Institute (General Medicine major, 1st year).

International cast – shared success

During the summer holidays, the work teams tidied up the university campus. Team "Prometheus" overhauled the academic and administrative buildings, and "Atlantes" carried out a comprehensive overhaul of the dormitories.

4 teams of students washed 57,000 square meters of windows. Thanks to them, sunlight fills the classrooms and students' rooms, delighting them with cleanliness. The guys used 1,207 cans of paint to paint the walls, small architectural forms, benches and fences, and the total area of the repaired surfaces was 24,745 square meters. The team members earned an average of 62,700 rubles per month. The students liked painting the most.

“Every renovated building, every washed window opening, every painted fence is not just the result of work, it is the embodiment of love for one’s university and concern for its future,” says Vladimir Sergeev, director of the Center for Active Programs for Assistance to Youth at RUDN University.

Labor, creativity, sports

The construction team members had an eventful life outside of work as well. They had creative evenings, beauty contests, concerts, as well as football, table tennis and volleyball tournaments. The students also went on a sightseeing tour of Moscow and Kolomna. Of course, one of the most exciting events of the shift was the "Miss and Mister Construction Team" contests. Girls and boys talked about their countries from the stage, sang, danced, demonstrated their ingenuity and manual dexterity.

"I didn't think I would win, I was very tense, because it was my first time participating. But I managed to cope with myself. For the competition, I sewed a T-shirt for the fashion show with my own hands, plus we also made outfits for ourselves from black garbage bags right on stage. It was fun! The construction team is my second family. Here I found real friends from all over the world, learned to work in an international team, and experienced unforgettable moments. These memories will stay with me forever," – Adeline Dorete Rasuanirina (Madagascar), a student of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of RUDN (International Relations major, 4th year).

Among the boys, the winner was Jean Pierre Sishugi Bisimwa from the Democratic Republic of Congo. We wrote about his experience working in a construction team in our July article. The student won over the jury and the public at the "Mr. Construction Team" competition so much that he not only received a diploma in the main nomination, but also won the titles of "Mr. Audience Choice" and "Mr. Artistry".

"I sang the song "Forward, Russia!" at the competition in honor of the National Flag Day and danced to national and modern music. A surprise challenge for us was the task of screwing screws into wood until they stop in two minutes. I coped with almost all stages of the competition perfectly, but in the intellectual game I got a little confused in answering the questions. But I still managed to win! Participation in the RUDN construction team gave me unique professional experience, a chance to expand my horizons and, of course, earn money," Jean Pierre Sishugi Bisimva, Bachelor of Engineering Academy (Construction major, 1st year).

Achievements and recognition

The RUDN team members also showed off their talents in the Moskvich labor project, which was organized by the Moscow regional branch of the Russian Student Teams. Our students won the first three places in the following nominations:

"Performance Skills" (Bisimva Jean Pierre Sishougi); "Team Dance"; "Author's Artistic Word" (Guetanis Christian Rustich Stephen).
