"The long list of the award included 87 works of different genres, and in just almost two months the organizing committee of the competition received about 580 works from 95 cities of Russia: Kaliningrad, Krasnodar, Moscow, St. Petersburg. Now the competent jury will have to select the best works. Their authors will receive cash rewards, and the best publications for young readers will appear in the collections of our libraries," said the Minister of the Government of Moscow, head of the capital's Department of Culture

He also added that this year, for the first time, six authors from the Donetsk People's Republic will be competing for victory.

The long list also included seven books about the Great Patriotic War and one by a participant in a special military operation. For the first time, the nominees included a trilogy and four dilogies. The books of the award nominees were published by 51 publishers.

Later, the jury will form a short list and announce the winners in six nominations. Another leader will be determined by Muscovites in the Active Citizen project: they will name the best work for children according to readers. The results will be announced in October-December.

Authors and translators whose works were published from January 1, 2024 to July 9, 2025 can participate in the competition. Applications were accepted from July 10 to August 7. The organizing committee received 578 original works from 95 cities in Russia. Most applications came from Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, Kaliningrad, Rostov regions, Krasnodar Krai, and six authors from the Donetsk People's Republic will also compete for victory. The oldest participants of this season were two peers of the Great Victory – they are 80 years old.

The jury included experts from Moscow libraries, laureates and winners of competitions and awards, children's writers and translators, including Tamara Kryukova, Maya Lazarenskaya, Yulia Simbirskaya, Maria Sukhotina and Olga Bochenkova.

There are seven nominations: "Best work in prose for children under seven years old", "Best work in prose for children aged eight to 12 years old", "Best poetry collection for children under seven years old", "Best poetry collection for children aged eight to 12 years old", "Best translation into Russian of a work for children under seven years old", "Best translation into Russian of a work for children aged eight to 12 years old", and "Best work for children according to readers". The prize fund for each nomination is one million rubles.

Winners of previous years

Last year, more than 600 applications from 108 cities in Russia were submitted to the competition. The authors and translators of the winning books were from Sosnovy Bor, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, Moscow and St. Petersburg. The leaders in the nomination "Best work for children according to readers" were determined by 20,827 users on the Active Citizen portal. In total, more than 490 thousand opinions were collected in the voting.

The Korney Chukovsky Prize was established in Moscow in 2020. The goal of the competition is to support contemporary children's writers, poets and translators, as well as to popularize children's literature.

Over five seasons, 4,292 authors from all over the country have applied — from Kaliningrad and Norilsk to Vladivostok and Sochi. Nominations concerning children's prose are the most popular, with up to half of the total number of applications submitted.

The winners of the first, second and third degrees over the four completed seasons were 28 books by 28 poets, prose writers and translators.
