HANOI, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) — Vietnam celebrated the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day with a grand military parade at Ba Dinh Square in the capital Hanoi on Tuesday, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

The celebration began with a 21-gun salute, followed by a military parade involving units of the armed forces and police, accompanied by a large-scale display of military equipment, artillery and weapons.

Thousands of Vietnamese families and tourists reportedly gathered on the streets of Hanoi on Monday evening to secure prime spots along the parade route to watch the festivities on Tuesday morning.

On September 2, 1945, as a result of the August Revolution, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) was established. –0–
