BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — The Xinhua and TASS news agencies on Tuesday opened a joint photo exhibition in Beijing to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The exhibition features more than 50 photographs taken by correspondents from the two agencies, demonstrating the enormous contribution of China and the USSR, which became the main theatres of military operations in Asia and Europe, respectively, to the victory in World War II.
Opening the exhibition, Xinhua Director-General Fu Hua said that Xinhua is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with TASS to jointly promote the correct view of the history of World War II, convey the voice of justice, peace and people, tell the moving stories of traditional Sino-Russian friendship, and write new beautiful chapters in the history of bilateral cooperation in the new era.
TASS Director General Andrei Kondrashov noted that the photographs show the significant sacrifices made by both countries in their quest for Victory, and they remind people of their responsibility for preserving peace. Resilience and solidarity are especially important in a world facing common challenges, A. Kondrashov emphasized.
Pointing to the importance of preserving and objectively presenting the historical truth related to the Victory in World War II, Natalia Stepkina, Minister Counselor of the Russian Embassy in China, said that the photographs by TASS and Xinhua help preserve the living memory of history. She added that Russia and China must resolutely oppose any attempts to distort history.
The exhibition will run until September 9. –0–
