TOKYO, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Tuesday again apologized for his ruling party's defeat in the recent House of Councillors election, saying he will decide at an appropriate time whether to step down amid calls for him to take responsibility and step down.
At a joint general meeting of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Shigeru Ishiba said he would not cling to his position. "My duty is not to shirk responsibility, but to make the right decision at the right time."
He highlighted priorities such as ensuring wage growth above inflation, harmonizing tariffs and strengthening the economy, as well as reforming agricultural policy, including measures to support rice production, public broadcaster NHK reported. –0–
