BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Beijing on Tuesday.

The Malaysian prime minister arrived in China to attend the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit and commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Li Qiang stressed that at the present time, when the world is entering a new period of upheaval and fundamental changes, the two countries should cooperate even more closely and unitedly, jointly defend the results of the victory in World War II and the post-war world order, and uphold the common interests of the two countries, the region and the entire world.

As the Premier of the State Council pointed out, China hopes to work with Malaysia to further integrate development strategies, make better use of the complementary advantages of the two countries, and take bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation to a higher level.

Anwar Ibrahim, for his part, said that China's holding of commemorative events to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression demonstrates China's responsibility in safeguarding world peace and promoting international fairness and justice.

Noting that China is a reliable partner and friend of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the Malaysian side fully supports the Global Governance Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping. He also expressed strong support for China's efforts to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. –0–
