The capital continues to strengthen its position as one of the main centers of automobile manufacturing in Russia. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry Maxim Liksutov.
"On the instructions of Sergei Sobyanin, the city provides comprehensive support to the automotive industry. For the dynamic development of the industry, the capital offers a set of effective support tools, thanks to which companies increase production capacity and expand their product range. Thus, from January to June 2025, the production of motor vehicles in Moscow increased by 60.7 percent compared to the same period last year," said Maxim Liksutov.
The overall growth in production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers in the first half of 2025 was 5.2 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
"Today, there are about 30 manufacturers of cars, trailers and semi-trailers, electric vehicles and components, including engines and batteries, operating in Moscow. In particular, the capital is becoming one of the centers for the development of electric vehicle manufacturing in the country: more than 20 residents of the Technopolis Moscow special economic zone are already engaged in innovative projects in this area," noted the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the capital's Department of Investment and Industrial Policy
One of the capital's companies, Global Terranica, specializes in new-generation tracked all-terrain vehicles designed for use in difficult climatic and landscape conditions. The innovative development is the Terranica Expedition all-terrain vehicle, created in collaboration with the Moscow Polytechnic University and the Cardi body shop. The vehicle is equipped with a hybrid power plant, has a range of more than 1,000 kilometers and a spacious luggage compartment with a volume of 800 liters. The all-terrain vehicle with a transformable interior is currently undergoing pre-production testing, and the start of mass production is planned for 2026-2027.
For over a century, the Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engine Institute (NAMI) has been the core of engineering thought and development of transport equipment in Moscow. The full cycle of vehicle design is carried out here — from the idea and engineering calculations to certification and serial production. The enterprise produces cars, motorcycles, and key components. Thanks to its powerful laboratory base, the institute carries out digital and full-scale tests, creates design projects, and conducts scientific examinations.
One of the examples of NAMI's latest innovations is the Aurus Merlon electric motorcycle, named after the Kremlin wall's battlement. In 2024, the model won the national award for "Best Industrial Design" both according to experts and by popular vote.
Another Moscow company, Art-Line Technology, is known for its activities in the field of motorsports. It manufactures racing cars, supervises autodromes, and carries out scientific and technical developments in this area. The company's designers and engineers implement full-cycle projects – from a sketch to technical support on the track. Over the years, dozens of chassis for athletes have been produced here, including future participants in Formula 1 races. The organization is actively expanding its infrastructure and supporting youth projects, continuing to contribute to the development of domestic motorsports.
Alpha Automotive Technologies, founded in 2007, produces external and supporting body elements for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Today, the company is a supplier of parts for AvtoVAZ and Haval Motor Manufacturing Rus. The company's production capacity allows it to produce more than 20 million units of products annually – over 170 types of body components.
