BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday put forward the Global Governance Initiative, calling on all countries to work together to build a fairer and smarter global governance system.

Xi Jinping made the remarks while chairing the SCO Plus meeting in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin. His remarks have sparked reactions and resonance in the international community.

Russia supports the initiative put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping to create a more effective system of global governance, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday during a speech at an expanded meeting of the SCO Plus in Tianjin. “We, of course, listened attentively to everything that Mr. Xi Jinping proposed to create a new, more effective and functional system of global governance,” he assured.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that Belarus is ready to join the Global Governance Initiative. “This initiative is based solely on equality and justice. This is what is sorely lacking in the development of international relations today,” the Belarusian leader said in his speech.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev emphasized that he welcomes the Global Governance Initiative presented by China as an important and timely measure aimed at improving international relations based on the sovereign equality of states and respect for the UN Charter and international law.

According to former Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Alikbek Jekshenkulov, the Global Governance Initiative may become attractive to many countries in the world. The acute problem of the lack of real democracy in international relations is like a magnet attracting countries of the Global South and developing countries to new and more attractive initiatives. This is especially true for those countries that have suffered from the economic expansion of the Western world and the United States to their advantage. China's initiative for a new world order with fair governance will certainly find support among most countries in the world.

Sergey Sanakoyev, President of the ANO “Center for Research and Forecasts of Development of the Asia-Pacific Region,” stated that China, as the host of the summit and in developing the theory of a community with a common destiny, is proposing another, fourth global initiative. “We are talking about simple principles of equality and mutual respect, justice and mutually beneficial cooperation. And even if Western countries once again fail to hear the voice of reason, this will not change the determination of the global majority to develop multilateralism and polycentricity without regard for Western sanctions,” he noted.

Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, head of the South Caucasus Political Scientists Club Ilgar Velizade believes that the speech of the Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping at the SCO summit was an important signal to all humanity about the need to develop contacts to ensure peace, stability and prosperity of the peoples of the planet. China seeks to create a fair world order based on international norms and principles laid down in the UN Charter.

Deputy Chairman of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society Ivan Arkhipov noted that the Global Governance Initiative proposed by Xi Jinping is of profound importance. In his opinion, it not only reflects respect for the basic principles of international law, but also offers constructive approaches to reforming the global governance system. “It is especially important that the principles of multilateralism and focus on specific actions are fully consistent with the concept that Russia supports. This initiative creates a new framework for cooperation for the broader international community, which is especially important for the development of the countries of the Global South,” he assured. –0–
