Tashkent, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) — The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin will be the culmination of China's presidency of the organization, Director of the SCO Public Diplomacy Center in Uzbekistan Kabuljon Sabirov said in a recent interview with Xinhua.

According to him, the summit is an important political event. This event will be the culmination of China's chairmanship of the organization, an important milestone for summing up the results of the Chinese side's chairmanship, as well as coordinating positions and making specific changes to the goals and objectives of the organization, taking into account modern realities.

As K. Sabirov noted, the scale of the summit shows that the SCO is indeed an authoritative international structure. “Today, the “Shanghai family” is a huge geography, a large population, colossal potential, as well as the constantly growing authority of the organization,” he noted.

The expert noted that the future of the organization will be largely determined at the summit, where it is planned to adopt a joint declaration, as well as a strategy designed for decades to come.

According to him, more than a dozen events were held during the year of China's chairmanship, and the events organized by the Chinese side were of high quality. They involved not only permanent members of the organization, but also observer countries and dialogue partners. This allowed the parties to gain rich experience and exchange views on a variety of issues.

“I sincerely hope that new proposals and initiatives within the framework of the summit will determine a new vector of development of the SCO not only in the near future, but also in the long term,” he concluded. –0–
