BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) — China hopes that Indonesia will take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and citizens in the country, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Monday when asked to comment on the ongoing escalation of mass demonstrations in Jakarta and other parts of Indonesia at a regular ministry press conference.
“The Chinese side is confident that under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, the Indonesian government will be able to resolve and achieve a speedy restoration of stability in the domestic political situation,” Guo Jiakun noted.
He noted that the Chinese side understands and respects the adjustments made by the Indonesian government to the plans for the visit to China based on domestic political needs.
