The largest SCO summit since its creation will be held from August 31 to September 1 in the city of Tianjin in northern China.

China assumed the rotating presidency of the SCO in July 2024 after the Astana summit. When it came to assessing China's role as the chair, Erik Kuvatov expressed the opinion that China has traditionally made a significant contribution to the development of the SCO. "During its presidency in 2024-2025, China is expected to increase its focus on innovation, digital cooperation, environmental projects, and sustainable development. I am confident that China will offer new impetus to expanding cultural and educational exchanges, as well as joint initiatives in the field of the green economy. This will give the organization additional dynamics and help member countries keep up with the times," Erik Kuvatov noted.
The Belt and Road Initiative fits seamlessly with the SCO's objectives
As is known, a number of SCO countries also participate in the "One Belt, One Road" initiative. According to Eric Kuvatov, the "One Belt, One Road" initiative organically combines with the SCO's tasks, because it is aimed at developing infrastructure, trade ties and humanitarian contacts. For the SCO countries, this opens up new opportunities: modern transport routes, tourism development, cultural dialogue. China's contribution to this initiative is especially valuable, because it helps to form a more interconnected, open and sustainable space for cooperation.
