WASHINGTON, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) — A cultural event recently held at the Chinese Embassy in the United States provided an opportunity to reminisce about the deep friendship forged between the Chinese and American peoples during the World Anti-Fascist War.
The event, titled “Experience China – A Symphony of Stories of Friendship between the Peoples of China and the United States,” was held on Wednesday evening in the innovative form of “symphony and immersive storytelling.”
An expert from the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Museum took the stage with Chris Magee, the grandson of John Magee, the American missionary who secretly filmed the Nanjing massacre. They presented a “dialogue through the lenses of two generations” to highlight the justice and peace captured on film.
Storytellers from China and the United States have collaborated to recount the dramatic story of the 1942 Doolittle Raid rescue, using as a plot point the one-cent coin given by navigator Charles Ozark to Chinese farmer Liao Shiyuan as a token of gratitude for saving his life.
Recalling the history of the Chinese and American peoples who fought side by side against fascism for peace and justice, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng called on everyone to pay tribute to history and remember the most important contributions made in the main eastern theater of war; pay tribute to the friendship and cherish the inseparable bonds formed between the two peoples in the fire of war; pay tribute to the future and create additional impetus for humanitarian contacts.
The Chinese Ambassador noted that relations between China and the United States are full of stories of friendship between peoples.
"We need to bring our peoples closer together, encourage and facilitate travel and people-to-people exchanges, and promote mutually beneficial cooperation, rather than sowing fear and hostility, erecting barriers, seeking to decouple economies, and trying to turn back the wheel of history," Xie Feng said, adding that it is necessary to maintain cooperation and jointly create a brighter future for the world.
A similar event was also held on Friday at the Chinese Consulate General in New York. –0–
