QINGDAO, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) — The Russian Pavilion at the China-SCO Pearl International Exhibition Center is strengthening cultural, economic and trade ties between China and Russia by showcasing Russia's rich heritage and modern products.
Recently, the pavilion's exposition was replenished with new exhibits – traditional costumes of the Kuban Cossacks, donated by the city of Novorossiysk in the Krasnodar Region of Russia. These costumes are known for their exquisite decorations, bright elements and unique style. The exhibition of these costumes will allow guests from China and other countries to get acquainted with the culture and history of the Kuban Cossacks.
The China-SCO Pearl International Exhibition Center is located in the China-SCO Regional Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone in Qingdao. Since its opening, it has become an important channel for people-to-people exchanges and economic and trade cooperation within the SCO through organizing art exhibitions, trade fairs and cultural events.
Currently, in addition to national costumes, the Russian pavilion presents more than 80 types of Russian goods, including Siberian honey, drinking water from Lake Baikal, flour, dairy products and chocolate, which are popular with Chinese consumers. Also on display are paintings by Russian artists, Soviet-era orders, commemorative coins from Russia, nesting dolls, Russian folk crafts; Khokhloma painting, Gzhel ceramics, Orenburg downy shawls, Vologda lace, Tula samovars, Zlatoust silver engraving, Palekh miniatures and folk musical instruments.
As the head of the pavilion Svetlana Wang noted, the key mission of the pavilion is not only commercial activity, but also the promotion of humanitarian dialogue between the two countries. To this end, the pavilion regularly holds free cultural lectures for Chinese youth, provides consultations on studying in Russia, and, together with the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing, organizes such events as Russian Language Day, Maslenitsa celebrations, Victory Dictation, and other events.
On May 16 of this year, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the World Anti-Fascist War, the Russian pavilion hosted a poetry evening entitled “Nobody is forgotten, nothing is forgotten!” The main goal of the event was to tell about the tragedy and heroism of the war years through the power of artistic words. The evening brought together Russians, students, teachers and numerous admirers of Russian poetry.
As part of the SCO Summer program, the Russian pavilion introduced both traditional and modern Russian culture to the Chinese public through art exhibitions and cultural performances. According to statistics, in 2024, the daily flow of visitors to the SCO Summer event increased by 31 percent year-on-year. A total of 84,000 people visited the event, clearly demonstrating the active cultural exchange between the two countries.
In recent years, the center has hosted high-level events such as the SCO Supply Chain Forum. In particular, at the 2025 SCO International Investment and Trade Expo, the Russian pavilion attracted many buyers and visitors with its unique art exhibitions and high-quality products.
“In the future, we will continue to deepen cooperation with various circles in China, and promote the entry of more high-quality Russian goods into the Chinese market,” said Svetlana Wang. According to her, as the Pearl China-SCO Expo Center develops, the Russian pavilion, which operates with the assistance of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in China, the Trade Mission and the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing, will play an increasingly important role in promoting interregional trade, economic and cultural exchanges between Russia and China, remaining a vivid testimony to the friendly ties between the two countries. -0-
