BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) — An international academic conference on "China and Russia: The Path to Modernization 2025" was held in Beijing on Friday.

At the event, scholars from China and Russia held in-depth discussions on issues such as “new changes in the global political and economic situation and their impact on China and Russia”, “the current macroeconomic situation of China and Russia and the challenges they face”, and “Chinese-Russian practical cooperation in trade and economic spheres under new historical conditions”.

Zhao Zhimin, secretary general of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CAS), noted that China and Russia are fellow travelers on the road to modernization. Continuing to strengthen and deepen Sino-Russian relations is an inevitable choice for both sides to promote their own development and rise.

The current academic conference serves as a high-level platform for comprehensive and in-depth discussions on theoretical and practical issues of modernization among representatives of Chinese and Russian academic circles, and is of great significance to promoting mutual learning and deepening practical cooperation in various fields between the two sides, he added.

In his video address, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Nikolai Makarov noted that in the context of growing fragmentation of the global economy and increased protectionism, scientists from the two countries need to pay attention to issues of modernization, exchange research results, learn from each other’s experience, and put forward proposals for the further development of Russian-Chinese relations and the joint promotion of modernization.

Sun Zhuangzhi, Director of the Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, expressed hope that this academic conference will be held regularly and become a platform for dialogue and exchanges between scholars of the two countries, and help deepen and strengthen Chinese-Russian humanitarian exchanges to bring more fruitful results.

The event was jointly organized by the Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Kazakh Academy of Social Sciences and the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. -0-
