ZAGREB, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) — The Croatian government will allocate an additional 1 million euros in humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza suffering from famine this year, Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlic-Radman said on Thursday.
According to him, assistance will be provided through the World Food Programme (WFP), the leading humanitarian organization in the field of food security.
The minister noted that this decision was made in light of the worsening humanitarian situation and confirmation of the famine in Gaza. Since the beginning of the conflict in the enclave, Croatia has sent humanitarian aid to its residents in the amount of 2.75 million euros, he added.
On Wednesday, the Palestinian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Farsin Aghabekian visited Croatia. She met with Croatian President Zoran Milanovic and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.
More than half a million people in Gaza are facing famine, according to a joint UN assessment released on August 22. –0–
