Moscow, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) — The year 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Xizang Autonomous Region (SAR) of China. Over the years, the region has achieved significant socio-economic successes recognized throughout the world, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui said in an opinion piece published in the Russian newspaper Trud on Friday.
"Over the past six decades, under the firm leadership of the Communist Party of China and with the strong support of all the people of the country, the people of the Xizang Autonomous Region, with a spirit of persistent struggle and aspiration for progress, have achieved significant, internationally recognized successes in the socio-economic development of the region," the publication says.
As the Chinese diplomat noted, political construction in the SAR has become increasingly perfect, economic development has rapidly accelerated, and the standard of living of the population has been steadily increasing. In addition, a strong ecological barrier has been created. “The river of time flows continuously, and the steps of struggle cannot be stopped. China is at a key stage of comprehensive construction of a modernized socialist state and the achievement of the second “hundred-year goal”. The construction of a modernized Xizang is also at a new historical milestone,” the diplomat believes.
Zhang Hanhui pointed out that building a new modern socialist Xizang – united, prosperous, civilized, harmonious and beautiful – requires, first of all, maintaining political calm, social stability, national unity and religious harmony. He stressed that Xizang has been an integral part of China’s sacred territory since ancient times. “Issues concerning Xizang are China’s internal affairs and do not allow interference by any external forces. Any plans aimed at splitting China and undermining stability in Xizang are doomed to failure!” he warned.
The PRC Ambassador to the Russian Federation stated that the Chinese side highly appreciates and sincerely thanks the Russian government and people for their consistent support for China's efforts to ensure security and stability in Xizang, as well as to strengthen national unity. "We are confident that the Russian side, as before, will support China in protecting its state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and will resolutely oppose any attempts by external forces to interfere in China's internal affairs," he noted and invited Russians to visit Xizang, take a walk and see everything with their own eyes, in order to feel the grandeur and beauty of Xizang's nature, the unique charm of its thousand-year-old culture, and also learn about the grandiose historical changes and achievements in the development of the region.
“We are confident that standing at a new historical frontier and following the policies of the Communist Party of China in governing Xizang in the new era, we will certainly achieve greater development and greater success in building a modern socialist Xizang,” Zhang Hanhui concluded. –0–
