KABUL, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) — A total of 2,844 Afghan families comprising 13,662 people returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan on Thursday, the Afghan High Commission for the Solution of Returnee Issues said on Friday.
The department’s statement noted that the returnees arrived in Afghanistan through the Islam-Kala, Torkham, Spin-Boldak and Abresham border checkpoints located in the provinces of Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar and Nimroz, respectively.
More than 2.3 million Afghan refugees are expected to return home from Iran and Pakistan in 2025, according to figures released Thursday by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
As reported in late July by the Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, there are currently around 6 million Afghan refugees, most of whom are undocumented, living abroad, many of them in Iran and Pakistan. –0–
