SHENZHEN, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) — China's first plant specializing in the production of photonic quantum computers (PQCs) is under construction in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province.
Once completed, the plant is expected to produce dozens of these computers per year, making serial production of FCCs possible.
The operation and construction of the new plant will be handled by Qboson, a leading Chinese quantum computing company based in Beijing, according to the Shenzhen Nanshan District Science and Technology Innovation Office.
“Quantum computing has huge information capacity and increased parallelism capabilities, which allows exponentially faster solving complex computing problems,” Wen Kai, founder of Qboson, told Xinhua.
He explained that PQC is a technology that uses the quantum properties of light for computing and is considered a major trend in quantum computing. Compared with other technological paths, photonic quantum computing does not require ultra-low temperatures and has several other advantages, including a large number of qubits, stable operation at room temperature, and longer coherence time.
The new plant will include three main operating units: module development, full-system manufacturing, quality control and testing. The factory building is currently under construction, and the process of equipping the premises is planned to begin by the end of October 2025, Wen Kai said. -0-
