Barskoon /Kyrgyzstan/, August 29 /Xinhua/ — A ceremony to launch the construction of a highway to the Bedel checkpoint on the border with China was held in the Kyrgyz village of Barskoon on the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul on August 27. About 300 people from the Chinese and Kyrgyz sides participated in the event.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov emphasized the benefits that the new road will bring: strengthening the country's ties with the outside world, growing the national economy, and increasing tourist flow. Pointing to the project's role in developing transport and logistics, he noted that this road will provide Kyrgyzstan with obvious benefits and create new opportunities.
Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Liu Jiangping said that the Barskoon-Bedel highway project is the largest contract in practical cooperation between China and Kyrgyzstan since the establishment of diplomatic relations. She expressed hope that the Chinese contractor will work well and complete the project on time to make it a new model of cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Belt and Road.
The China Road company is responsible for the construction of the road, which is approximately 150 km long.
