UN, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has reaffirmed the UN's principled position of supporting a full, immediate and unconditional ceasefire as a first step towards a just, comprehensive and sustainable peace in Ukraine in accordance with the UN Charter, international law and UN resolutions, Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the secretary-general, said on Thursday.
At a daily briefing, S. Dujarric reported that on Thursday, A. Guterres had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which the parties discussed the latest diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
The official representative noted that A. Guterres stressed the importance of maintaining diplomatic momentum.
The UN Secretary-General also reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to providing assistance to meet Ukraine’s humanitarian needs on the ground, as well as supporting the country’s reconstruction efforts, added S. Dujarric. –0–
