BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) — China and India should jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in their border areas, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang said Thursday.
Zhang Xiaogang made the remarks at a press conference when answering a question about the 24th meeting of China-India special representatives on border issues held earlier this month. The talks reached a 10-point consensus and the two sides agreed to continue to use mechanisms to monitor the situation on the border through diplomatic and military channels.
The official representative noted that during the talks, the parties had a frank and in-depth exchange of views on Chinese-Indian border issues in a positive and constructive manner, reaching a number of agreements.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and India. In this regard, Zhang Xiaogang stressed that the two sides should strengthen the positive momentum in bilateral relations and seek the right path for the two neighboring countries to coexist based on the principles of mutual respect, mutual trust, peaceful coexistence, common development and win-win cooperation. –0–
