BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) — Acting Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing will attend the SCO Plus meeting at the invitation of the Chinese side, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Thursday.
Myanmar is one of the dialogue partners within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Chinese diplomat added.
Guo Jiakun confirmed the information during a regular departmental press conference when asked by a media representative whether the acting Myanmar president had been invited to attend the SCO summit in Tianjin, after Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei announced earlier on Thursday that Min Aung Hlaing would attend commemorative events to be held in Beijing on September 3 to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Leaders from Asia, Europe and Africa will gather in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin from August 31 to September 1 for the SCO summit, the largest in the organisation's history. -0-
