Astana, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) — Kazakhstan's automobile industry has become one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy in recent years, Kazinform reported on Thursday, citing the country's Ministry of Industry and Construction.
According to the department, following the results of the first half of 2025, the share of the automotive industry in the structure of mechanical engineering reached 40.9 percent, and in the manufacturing industry – 7.28 percent. For comparison: in 2018, these figures were 19.2 and 1.98 percent, respectively. The volume of production in 2024 amounted to 145 thousand units of vehicles, compared to 32 thousand in 2018.
There are currently eight automobile plants operating in the country, producing passenger cars, buses, trucks and special equipment. All cars produced in Kazakhstan comply with the technical regulations of the EAEU.
In 2025, further growth in production is expected due to the launch of a multi-brand plant of Chinese brands in Almaty with an annual capacity of up to 120 thousand cars and a KIA plant in Kostanay, designed to produce 70 thousand cars per year. According to the ministry, as of mid-2025, the industry employs about 7.6 thousand people, and with the opening of new enterprises, over 5 thousand more jobs will be created. –0–
