BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — The combined profits of China's major industrial enterprises fell 1.7 percent year on year in the first seven months of this year, data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed Wednesday.

In China, large industrial enterprises are defined as those with annual revenues from their main business activities of at least 20 million yuan (about $2.81 million). Their profits reached 4.02 trillion yuan from January to July.

In July, profits at major industrial enterprises in China fell by 1.5 percent compared with the same month last year, while the rate of decline was 2.8 percentage points slower than the figure recorded in June this year.

The GSU data showed that in July the profits of large enterprises in the country's manufacturing industry grew by 6.8 percent year-on-year, with the growth rate being 5.4 percentage points higher than in June of this year. -0-
