TEHRAN, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — Iran and the European "troika" of Germany, France and Britain have agreed to continue contacts in the coming days, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

In an interview with state television channel IRIB TV, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei spoke about the results of a meeting of senior diplomats from Iran, the European “troika” and the European Union in Geneva earlier that day.

According to E. Baghaei, during the negotiations, Iran “directly and unambiguously” informed the other parties of its demand for the lifting of sanctions, as well as its nuclear rights.

The Iranian delegation told the Europeans that they had no right to activate the snapback mechanism and restore international sanctions against Tehran, and warned them of the consequences if such a scenario developed, he added.

Commenting on the meeting in a post on the X social media platform, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said both sides laid out their views on UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorses the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.

He said Iran remains committed to diplomacy and finding a mutually beneficial diplomatic solution, stressing that it is time for the European troika and the UN Security Council to make “the right choice and give diplomacy time and space.” –0–
