RAMALLAH, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) withdrew from the central West Bank city of Ramallah on Tuesday following a large-scale raid early in the morning, Palestinian sources said.

Palestinian security forces said a large Israeli force had stormed central Ramallah, targeting several shops and currency exchange offices.

Local sources reported that several Palestinians were detained during raids on currency exchange points in Ramallah and al-Bireh.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said 20 Palestinians were wounded in the raid, including a 12-year-old boy who was shot in the back and two pregnant women who suffered from asphyxiation.

Video footage circulated on social media showed Israeli military vehicles driving into central Ramallah and firing live ammunition and tear gas canisters, causing fear and panic among residents, especially in the commercial area where official Palestinian institutions are located.

Sources confirmed that Israeli troops later left the city center.

The IDF said Tuesday that soldiers and Israel Border Police officers conducted a targeted raid Tuesday morning in central Ramallah on currency exchange offices that transfer funds to Hamas. –0–
