BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — Western China has made progress in innovation.
According to the latest data released by the National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), there are 531,000 active invention patents in 12 provincial-level regions. Shaanxi Province in northwest China alone accounts for nearly a quarter of the total.
Speaking at a news conference in Beijing on Tuesday, Shen Liping, head of the Shaanxi Provincial Intellectual Property Office, attributed the progress to the province's strengthening of intellectual property protection in areas such as new-generation information technology, alternative energy and artificial intelligence.
Shen Liping also noted efforts to resolve intellectual property disputes overseas, citing provincial intellectual property support centers in the UK and Kazakhstan that provide legal advice and support services to Chinese enterprises operating overseas.
To curb violations, provincial public security bureaus have implemented early warning models based on big data that can identify potential violations.
Beyond high-tech patents, Shaanxi is also using its rich cultural heritage to spur intellectual property innovation. Local designers are encouraged to incorporate symbols such as the Terracotta Warriors into their product lines and brand identities. According to a local official, this approach not only helps promote traditional culture but also increases local brand recognition in markets.
As of June, Shaanxi Province had 125,000 active invention patents and 879,000 active trademark registrations, CNIPA said. -0-
