BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — A joint special issue of the journal "Regional Economy" was presented in Beijing on Tuesday as a thematic issue /No. 3, 2025/, jointly compiled and prepared by the Institute of Russia, East Europe and Central Asia of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences).

“Ekonomika Regiona” is a quarterly scientific journal published jointly by the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Economics and Management of the Ural Federal University (UrFU). This is the first time that the journal has been published in collaboration with any of the Chinese academic institutions.

The special issue is devoted to the topic “Prospects for Geoeconomic Partnership between Russia and China”. It contains 22 works by Chinese and Russian scientists, which focus on the possibilities of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries in various areas and directions, and also put forward proposals to expand the areas of bilateral cooperation.

“Thanks to the preparation of the joint special issue, Chinese and Russian scholars can prepare articles and exchange views on topics of common interest on one academic platform, which will help further advance the deepening of research and strengthen mutual understanding and agreements between the two sides,” said Sun Zhuangzhi, Director of the Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, who was a specially invited member of the editorial board of the special issue.

He expressed the hope that as many Chinese and Russian scholars as possible would pay attention to and study the practical cooperation between the two countries in order to find more new ways to improve the level and quality of bilateral cooperation.

Director of the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and editor-in-chief of the journal “Economics of the Region” Yulia Lavrikova hopes for further deepening of joint research by both parties and turning joint special issues into a model project of Russian-Chinese academic cooperation. -0-
