Financial literacy marathon that became part of the forum "Territory of the Future. Moscow 2030", was visited by about 87 thousand people. Lectures, master classes, business games and other events lasted for two and a half weeks. Residents and guests of the city, together with experts, talked about the rules of digital hygiene and marketing tricks, looked for a formula for an effective family budget and learned how to create a financial safety net.
"In just 17 days, we held 429 events of various formats at the Zapovedny Posledstvo and the small amphitheater of Zaryadye Park. Practicing experts in finance, business and education shared their unique experience. Guests of all ages improved their level of financial literacy and mastered useful financial skills. New knowledge will help make informed decisions. We receive a lot of positive feedback from visitors and carefully analyze it. People recommend our projects to relatives, friends and colleagues. This means that the right formats and presentation of the material were chosen, an accessible infrastructure for financial education was created. Together with experts, we are forming a reliable base for financial literacy," noted
Elena Zyabbarova, Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the capital's Department of Finance.
Workshops and master classes
The marathon program included many applied areas. Personal budget, insurance, financial security, tax literacy — this is only a small part of what was discussed in Zaryadye. There were also separate thematic days. For example, on August 14, experts talked about lending and responsible borrowing — these issues attracted the most attention. Some of the events were broadcast live. Recordings can be seen at any time on the page in the social network "VKontakte".
The marathon brought together representatives of various professions: entrepreneurs and financiers, teachers and psychologists, actors and TV presenters. Meetings with them aroused great interest: participants in lectures, workshops, master classes and open dialogues asked 480 questions. The most unusual and funny ones – "If you are an expert in financial literacy, then why haven't you become a millionaire?" and "Where do they teach to become a Minister of Finance?" – were asked by children.
The lesson "Secret Code: Think Up Your Own Super Password!" and the master class "Banknotes Under the Microscope" received many responses from guests aged six to 10. Schoolchildren aged 11–14 were interested in "The History of Money: From Shells to Cryptocurrency".
The adult audience enjoyed the workshop "Dream Job – 2035: Profession as an Investment in Yourself", as well as open dialogues with actor Sergey Burunov, TV presenter Roman Kagramanov, artist and blogger Sasha Stone. The guests were amused by the humorous monologues about personal finances by comedians Stas Starovoitov and Andrey Beburishvili.
Sergey Burunov, for example, spoke about fraud, one of the main threats in the digital age. He shared stories from his life and admitted that he regularly receives calls from "bank security officers," "investigators," and "police lieutenants." Fraudsters even use the actor's voice to trick his relatives and friends into giving him money. He always blocks suspicious numbers and blacklists them.
Invest in yourself
Other events also provided a lot of useful knowledge. Participants were told how digital financial assets differ from hybrid digital rights, how to protect personal data and bank accounts from fraudsters, and how to put together a beautiful wardrobe without unnecessary expenses. Guests found out how to calculate the optimal loan payment and what documents are needed to apply for mortgage holidays.
Associate Professor of the Lomonosov Moscow State University Olga Vinogradova is sure that financial literacy should be viewed as an investment in yourself. In her opinion, it is important to understand the basic principles of financial planning, study the stories of successful investors and constantly develop in the field of capital management. She named three key skills that are especially important for a modern person – the ability to manage a personal budget, save and increase funds, analyze risks. In addition, you need to have a financial safety cushion for at least six months, and ideally – for a year.
Professor of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation Pavel Revenkov reminded about the main rules of financial security: do not follow suspicious links, do not maintain a conversation with scammers, do not tell anyone the password from the SMS, as well as the bank card number and the three-digit code on the back.
Svetlana Belyaeva, head of the working group on tax disputes of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, conducted a tax crash course. She told how a blogger can legalize his earnings, which tax regime to choose, what is the difference between a self-employed person and an individual entrepreneur. Even schoolchildren were interested in these questions.
Olga Milova, an expert at the Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia for the Central Federal District, explained what you need to know when concluding a loan agreement, what pitfalls credit cards have, and how to properly restructure a loan. And hh.ru mentor Vitaly Rann suggested how not to succumb to fashion trends and choose a profession to your liking. In addition, the specialist explained in detail what points should be in an employment contract and shared his checklist for choosing a profession.
Financial Freedom: Easier Than It Seems
The speakers noted that the audience gathered for the marathon was interested, and communication with them left a pleasant impression. Expert of the Moscow Exchange's Finuslugi platform Gleb Yuchenkov admitted that he often speaks at financial literacy events and sometimes catches himself thinking that he is telling obvious things.
"But this is exactly what people need: simple words and clear formulas help to see that financial freedom is not as difficult as it seems. The main thing is discipline and constant interest in the topic," the speaker emphasized.
City residents were able to develop their financial management skills on updated VR simulators developed together with experts from the Moscow Government's Personnel Services Department. The most popular was the new scenario about fraudsters' tricks. Users tried themselves in the role of a financial detective and tried to unravel the cunning scheme. They completed the scenario 457 times, which took a total of 6,855 minutes.
More than 8.5 thousand people took the financial test, which helps to assess the level of personal financial literacy. The online testing was organized in three languages: Russian, English and Chinese. After answering the questions, the participants received personal recommendations for further self-development.
