Yerevan, August 26 (Xinhua) — Armenia and the United Kingdom intend to raise the relations between the two countries to the level of strategic partnership, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.
According to the press service, the corresponding agreement was reached on Tuesday at a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan and UK Secretary of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty, which took place within the framework of the second round of the Armenia-UK strategic dialogue, which took place in Yerevan.
The interlocutors assessed the progress achieved since the previous round of dialogue, which took place in London in 2023, and also reaffirmed the importance of regular high-level contacts to further strengthen and expand the bilateral partnership between Armenia and the UK.
The parties also discussed expanding cooperation in the areas of security and defense, including establishing high-level contacts and exchanging military attachés.
The South Caucasus was given special attention during the meeting. The UK welcomed the agreements recently reached in Washington between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the parties also noted the importance of opening communications between the two countries. –0–
