MINSK, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — During World War II, the spirit of the Chinese and Belarusian peoples made a huge contribution to ensuring peace today, Deputy Chairperson of the Belarus-China Friendship Society Alina Grishkevich told Xinhua in Minsk.
In her opinion, the Chinese people defeated the Japanese invaders because they were strong in spirit. “They are a heroic and invincible people, just like the Belarusians. During the Second World War, it was the spirit of the Chinese and Belarusian peoples, their desire for independence, for sovereignty, that made a huge contribution to ensuring peace today. And today, we also strive together to make an even greater contribution to maintaining peace,” she explained.
"The feeling of bitterness from the tragic losses that the Chinese people experienced during the Second World War is proportionate to what the Belarusian people experienced during the Great Patriotic War. It is very symbolic that our peoples are celebrating Victory Day together, the victory over the invaders, over those forces that invaded the territory of our states but were defeated," the Xinhua interlocutor noted.
According to A. Grishkevich, the topic of the Great Patriotic War is very painful and emotional for her personally. “My great-grandfather was burned by the fascists during the war. I think that our Chinese friends, whose relatives were also killed at that time, feel the same pain. That is why Belarus and China want to always have a peaceful sky above us,” she noted.
"Preserving historical memory is of great importance for China and Belarus. During the Second World War, we fought for our independence, for our sovereignty, and sought universal peace. And now we are also together, including within the framework of the initiative of the Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping "Belt and Road", the Idea of Building a Community of Shared Destiny for Mankind, the Initiative on Global Security. These are powerful initiatives. In my opinion, these are the strongest global initiatives at the moment," emphasized the deputy chairperson of the Belarus-China Friendship Society.
In addition, she noted that bilateral relations between Belarus and China are developing very intensively. –0–
