HAIKOU, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — Typhoon Kajiki, the 13th typhoon this year, passed off the coast of southern China's island province of Hainan on Sunday evening, affecting more than 100,000 people, a provincial press conference said Monday.

The typhoon passed near the coast of coastal areas between the resort city of Sanya and Ledong Li Autonomous County, heading towards central and northern coastal areas of Vietnam, a press conference on the response to Typhoon Kajiki was told.

Preliminary data show that the disaster affected about 102,500 people in Hainan. As of 09:00 Monday, there were no reports of casualties as a result of the disaster.

The typhoon damaged roads and caused damage to water supply systems, power supply and communication facilities in cities and counties including Sanya, Ledong, Lingshui and Wanning. Kajiki also toppled trees and caused flooding in some areas.

More than 10,000 military personnel, armed police and fire brigades have been mobilized, and more than 770,000 emergency aid items have been deployed to support flood control, disaster relief and road clearing in the worst-hit areas.

Public transport is gradually resuming across the province. Phoenix International Airport in Sanya has resumed normal operations, and three major ports in the provincial capital Haikou are expected to reopen on Monday. -0-
