BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China (NPC), on Monday called on the NPC and the Federal Assembly (parliament) of the Russian Federation to make full use of cooperation mechanisms and platforms and steadily strengthen exchanges and cooperation.
Zhao Leji made the corresponding call at the 10th meeting of the China-Russia Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation in Beijing, which he held jointly with the Chairman of the State Duma (lower house of parliament) of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin.
As Zhao Leji noted, under the strategic leadership of the two heads of state, the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era has consistently maintained the momentum of healthy, stable and high-level development.
According to him, facts show that Chinese-Russian cooperation has complementary advantages and great potential, representing a strategic choice of both sides based on the national development and rise of each country.
Recalling that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Commission, Zhao Leji announced the intention of the NPC, together with the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, to take the implementation of important agreements between the leaders of the two countries as a fundamental guideline, make full use of cooperation mechanisms and platforms, consistently strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and promote the in-depth development of China-Russia relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction in the new era.
He called on the two sides to maintain the positive momentum of close exchanges, strengthen mutual understanding and trust, and consolidate the political foundation of mutual support, unity and cooperation.
Zhao Leji pointed out that it is necessary to expand the content and forms of institutional exchanges to meet the needs of the development of China-Russia relations in the new era. He noted that the legislative bodies of China and Russia should also learn from each other's experiences in such aspects as governance, lawmaking and supervision to support the development and rise of their countries.
In addition, the NPC Standing Committee chairman called for close communication and coordination within the framework of multilateral mechanisms, resolutely upholding the results of the victory in World War II, continuing to uphold the correct approach to the history of that war, upholding the international system with the UN at its core, putting true multilateralism into practice, and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
