BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — Nansha Islands are an inalienable part of China's territory. China firmly opposes construction work by relevant countries on the islands and reefs they illegally occupied, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Monday.

He made the remarks while commenting on a report by a US think tank that said Vietnam has sharply accelerated efforts to create artificial land on disputed islands in the South China Sea this year, with the latest expansion project covering eight islands and reefs that were not previously included in Vietnam's sea-filling and artificial land plan launched in 2021.

“We will take all necessary measures to protect our territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests,” Guo Jiakun said at a regular departmental press conference. -0-
