JERUSALEM, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — The Israeli military admitted that it attacked the Nasser Hospital in the Gaza Strip on Monday and expressed regret over the civilian deaths.

"Earlier today, IDF units carried out an attack in the area of the Nasser hospital in Khan Yunis," located in the southern Gaza Strip, the Israeli army said in a statement, without specifying the reason for the attack.

“The IDF regrets any harm caused to civilians and does not intentionally target journalists as such,” the IDF said, adding that IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir had ordered a preliminary investigation into the incident.

At least 15 people, including four journalists, were killed in the attack, Gaza health officials said.

Palestinian security sources told Xinhua that Israeli warplanes fired at least one missile at the fourth floor of Nasser Hospital, and a second strike was launched as medical teams arrived to evacuate the dead and injured. –0–
