BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with special envoy of the President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Pak Peng-sek in Beijing on Sunday.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, noted that after the new ROK government took office, Chinese President Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation with ROK President Lee Jae-myung, during which they reached an important consensus on advancing China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership to a higher level, and outlined the development directions of bilateral relations in the next stage.
Wang Yi noted that China maintains stability and continuity in its policy toward the Republic of Korea, calls on both sides to adhere to the original goal of establishing diplomatic relations, firmly adhere to the course of friendship, expand common interests, improve people-to-people relations, properly handle sensitive issues, and promote the sustainable and long-term development of interstate relations on the right track.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Korean Peninsula, Wang said, adding that China is willing to work with all peace-loving countries and peoples to jointly safeguard the victory of World War II and international justice.
Wang Yi called on the two sides to jointly safeguard the international free trade system, jointly oppose trade protectionism, implement multilateralism, strengthen communication and coordination within the UN and other organizations, and effectively respond to regional and global challenges.
Pak Peng-sek asked Wang Yi to convey a letter from President Lee Jae-myung to President Xi Jinping.
He said that the new government of the Republic of Kazakhstan attaches great importance to developing relations with China, is ready to work together with China to implement the consensus reached by the heads of the two states, strengthen high-level exchanges, expand practical cooperation oriented to the future, expand humanitarian exchanges in education, between youth and other areas, and return the strategic cooperation and partnership between the Republic of Kazakhstan and China to the right track.
