JOHANNESBURG, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — South African President Cyril Ramaphosa held a telephone conversation with European leaders on Saturday to discuss the peace process between Russia and Ukraine, the presidential office said.
The conversation followed meetings between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several other European leaders.
According to the report, S. Ramaphosa spoke with V. Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
“During all discussions, European leaders openly shared their views, commended South Africa’s role in engaging with both sides in the conflict and reaffirmed to President Ramaphosa their strong commitment to supporting efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine,” said presidential spokesman Vincent Magwenya.
He said Ramaphosa would hold talks with other European leaders in the coming days and that he called on all parties to maintain momentum in working towards peace between Ukraine and Russia. –0–
