Support for centers of development of science and modern technologies remains one of the priority areas of work of the Government. An order was signed on preserving the status of a science city of the Russian Federation for the working settlement of Koltsovo in the Novosibirsk Region.
This status was assigned to Koltsovo by a presidential decree in 2003. The term of this decision expires on December 31, 2025. According to the current legislation, the status of a science city is assigned for 15 years. Thus, the adopted decision will be valid until 2040.
Maintaining the status of a science city will allow Koltsovo to receive federal funding for the preservation and development of its scientific and industrial complexes and infrastructure.
The scientific and production complex of the village includes enterprises and companies specializing in the production of biomedical and pharmaceutical products, medical instruments and equipment, and information and telecommunications systems. For example, the State Scientific Center of Virology and Biotechnology Vector, one of the main vaccine manufacturers in the country, is located in Koltsovo. In particular, it was there that the COVID-19 vaccine called EpiVacCorona was developed and registered.
