ALEXANDRIA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — China and Egypt have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation in marine archaeology and underwater cultural heritage protection.
The memorandum was signed on Thursday at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina between the National Center for Archaeological Research of China under the National Cultural Heritage Administration of China and Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA).
The two countries will establish a joint center for marine archaeology and underwater heritage in Alexandria. The cooperation will strengthen people-to-people ties, deepen the strategic partnership between China and Egypt, and promote the building of a community with a shared future between the two countries, said Yang Yi, China's Consul General in Alexandria.
SCA Secretary General Mohamed Ismail Khaled stressed that Egypt will be able to benefit from China's experience and technology in the fields of marine exploration, excavations and cultural heritage protection.
According to him, the memorandum covers joint research projects, scientific events, information exchange and training programs for archaeologists and restorers. –0–
